Earthquake in North India: A massive quake hit North India today, which measured at 7.7 magnitude on Richter scale. From Kashmir to Delhi, the entire region saw panicked people running out of their houses and other establishments.

A massive earthquake hit North India today, which was measured at 7.7 magnitude on Richter scale today that shook the entire region from Kashmir to Delhi sending panicked people running out of their houses and other establishments.
In fact according to Global Incident Map, there were 3 earthquakes that followed each other in close succession , one as near as 21 minutes (3:20 pm IST). Whether these were aftershocks is not clear yet.

PM Modi has asked for urgent assessment of the quake, ready for assistance where required, including Afghanistan and Pakistan.
So far, no reports have indicated the quake has prevented the financial establishments and other businesses from working normally, except for the initial duration of the earthquake.
The Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange plus all the other markets, including commodities markets are working normally.
The quake was felt right across South Asia, rocking cities, towns and villages everywhere.
Strong tremors were felt in Kabul, New Delhi and Islamabad on Monday. In the Pakistani capital, walls swayed back and forth and people poured out of office buildings in a panic, reciting verses from the Quran.
The epicentere of the earthquake was in the Hindukush region in northeastern Afghanistan on Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey said, sending earthquake that was felt as far away as in India and in neighbouring Pakistan.
The earthquake tremors continued for a long time. The earthquake is continued for as long as 4-5 minutes.
Aftershocks are expected. People are advised to seek shelter, but move out of unsafe buildings.
At the moment reports of damage or injuries have not been reported, but as the earthquake was massive, the damage in terms of human loss of life and other properties is expected to be huge.

Vineet Gahlot, the director of seismology at the Indian Meteorological Department, said the earthquake had a magnitude of 7.7 and an epicenter deep in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. Pakistan state TV reported the same magnitude.
Richter scale and the damage done:
1. 0 to 1.9: Tremors only visible to Seismograph
2. 2 to 2.9: Light shaking can be felt
3. 3 to 3.9: The vibrations get stronger
4. 4 to 4.9: Window panes can break and phot frames on walls can fall
5. 5 to 5.9: Furniture starts moving from its place
6. 6 to 6.9: Foundations of buildings can be displaced
7. 7 to 7.9: Buildings can fall।
8. 8 to 8.9: Larger edifices like bridges can be damaged and fall
9. 9 Plus: Everything that has been built buy human hands can get destroyed and even hills and mountains can be affected
